MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Updates from day one of the World Youth Track and Field Trials and the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championlships:
World Youth Track and Field Trials
Boy's 3,000m
Darren Fahy of San Diego was able to hold off runner-up Connor Rog to win the trials in 8:35.17.
Boy's shot put
Tyler Schultz of South Dakota won the shot put on his final attempt with a heave of 20.08m/65-10.50.
Girls discus throw
With a throw of 49.41m/162-01 Chamaya Turner brought home the win in the girl's discus trials.
Steeplechase
Madeleine Meyers of Seattle, Wa. set a new high school national record in the 2,000m steeplechase with her time of 6:32.02 on her way a victory in the 2,000m steeplechase.
Northwest Florida Track Club's Dillon Worley improved on his seed time to win the boy's 2,000m steeplechase in 6:08.35.
Boy's pole vault
New Balance Outdoor Nationals champ Jacob Blankenship captured another prestigious win with his jump of 4.90m/16-0.75 in the boys' pole vault.
Girls' long jump
California's Kira Moreland only needed one attempt to win the girls' long jump competition with her distance of 5.82m/19-1.25.
