Fastest Kid in New York Qualifiers Determined for the 2009 Millrose Games
January 20, 2009 from press release (NEW YORK, NY) Twelve 7- and 8-year old runners qualified January 14 th at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory to compete at the 2009 Millrose Games in the finals of the Fastest Kid in New York 50-meter race. For the first time, the qualifying was open to runners from all 50 states vying to become, for one night, New York City’s fastest kid. The 102 nd Millrose Games takes place January 30 th at the world-famous Madison Square Garden. Held annually since 1908, the Millrose Games is the nation’s longest-running invitational track meet, Madison Square Garden’s longest-running sporting event, and a highlight of USA Track & Field’s annual “Visa Championship Series.”

Among the Millrose Games headliners will be Bernard Lagat, the six-time Wanamaker Mile champion, who will attempt to tie the Wanamaker Mile win record owned by legendary Irish great Eamonn Coghlan, in addition to Australia’s Steve Hooker, the 2008 Olympic champion in the pole vault, and 2008 Olympic silver medalist in the pole vault, American Jenn Stuczynski.

As the nation’s premier indoor track & field invitational meet, the Millrose Games also features Olympic-caliber stars and top college and high school athletes. Events include men’s and women’s sprints, hurdles, middle-distance races – including the famed Wanamaker Mile – the pole vault, men’s shot put and invitational high school and collegiate races.
Recent Millrose Games participants include Olympic medalists Allen Johnson, Allyson Felix, Marion Jones, Maurice Greene, Stacy Dragila, Adam Nelson, Jearl Miles-Clark and Gail Devers.
