Where is Our Sport Going?

So, this started as the beginning of Elliott Denman's piece on the U.S. Open, then I decided to rewrite and try and be more inclusive. I saw some good things at the US Open, and liked that Budweiser came in as a sponsor at end. I will be at NB, USA Indoor, World Indoor, and a few other events (Brooks PR invitational), writing about our sport and observing. Here are my observations so far, and my invitation for others to write about the sport that we all love, and want to see flourish.
YouTube Bringing Millrose Games To Masses
NEW YORK, January 30, 2012 - The Armory Foundation has announced a multi-year agreement with YouTube Sports to air its track & field season. The highlight will be a live HD production of the 2012 Millrose Games at the Armory beginning at 4 p.m. February 11, 2012 and ending with the famous Wanamaker Mile sponsored by the New York Road Runners at 10 p.m.
Prep Athletes Set for U.S. Open
Some of the top high school talent in the New York metropolitan area and beyond will take to the track for four events at Saturday’s U.S. Open. USA Track & Field on Wednesday announced the fields that will compete in the girls’ mile, boys’ mile, CHSAA girls’ 4x400m relay and CHSAA boys’ 4x800m relay.
2012 New Balance Indoor Games
The real opening of the Indoor season for many, is the NB Indoor Games, held at the NYC Armory, January 21. Some tremendous performances, lead by some fun indoor miles and Edward Cheserek, the 2011 FootLocker champion, running a fine 4:02.21 mile.
Fayetteville Returns to Visa Championship Series with 2012 USATF Classic
INDIANAPOLIS – A host of USATF’s Indoor Visa Championship Series for the past 10 years, Fayetteville, Arkansas, will host the USA Track & Field Classic February 11 as part of the nationally televised series, USA Track & Field announced Tuesday.
Flanagan Named USATF Athlete of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS - Shalane Flanagan has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after winning the women’s U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon Saturday, Jan. 14 in a new Olympic Trials record time in Houston.
2012 NB Indoor Grand Prix: Rupp & Oliver Set to Compete in Boston

Keflezighi; Flanagan win U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon
HOUSTON - Two of the fastest races in Olympic Marathon Trials history took place on the same day Saturday in Houston as the six men and women who will represent Team USA in London earned their way on the squad.

Athlete Spotlight: Caroline White

Caroline White will be competing in the Marathon Olympic Trials this Saturday, vying for one of the three spots on the Olympic team. She will be racing amongst the nation’s fastest runners, although her journey to becoming a nationally competitive athlete is unprecedented. White’s experiences as a jumpmaster, triathlete, and pilot allowed her to develop into the runner she is today.
